Mountain Refined at the Old Firehouse in Kamas, UT

Big news for our Mountain Refined family!

We’re so excited to share that Mountain Refined is opening a new location in Kamas, Utah, inside the old Firehouse.

This next chapter means so much to us. What started as a dream has grown because of the people who have supported us, shopped small with us, shared kind words, and cheered us on along the way.

We can’t wait to bring more thoughtfully chosen home pieces, gifts, and warm Mountain Refined style to Kamas.

Plans for the Old Fire Station & Tithing House

For nearly a century, the Kamas Firehouse has stood on Main Street as more than a building. It has been a quiet symbol of community, service, and the people who showed up for one another when it mattered most. Built around 1950, during a time when Kamas was growing around ranching, farming, and local Main Street businesses, the firehouse carries the story of a town shaped by hard work, volunteer spirit, and deep neighborly pride. Our hope is to help preserve that story while giving this beloved piece of Kamas history a thoughtful new chapter.

What are your intentions for these historic buildings?

Our goal is to preserve and honor their legacy as much as possible. We know these buildings mean a lot to the community, and we want to be thoughtful in how we restore, update, and use them.

Will you be keeping the old “Fire Dept” neon sign?

Yes! We love the old “Fire Dept” neon sign and plan to keep it as part of the building. We are currently looking into having it restored.

What happened to the bell/siren tower?

The tower has been taken down, but we are preserving and reusing parts of it. The angle iron from the stand will be repurposed into railings and other features around the property.

What will happen to the siren itself?

We are looking into restoring the siren and installing it on top of the building. We think it would be wonderful to use it during parades and special occasions in the city.

What about the “South Summit Fire District Kamas Station” sign?

That sign will be taken down and preserved as well.

Are you changing the look of the Fire Station building?

We have researched two-story fire stations from the same era and have worked hard to match the existing look and feel with era-appropriate design. Our hope is that the building continues to feel connected to its history.

What are your plans for the Tithing House?

Plans for the Tithing House will come a little further down the road. We did need to take down the garage for safety reasons, but the garage was not original to the building.

Are you working with preservation experts?

Yes. We have been working with the State of Utah’s Preservation Committee on ways to restore the Tithing House and bring it back as close to its original character as possible.

What do you hope these buildings become?

We hope both buildings become staples in the community and favorite gathering places for Kamas residents and visitors, while honoring the history and legacy that make them so special.
